Frequently Asked Questions:
What is a regulated foot specialist called in ontario?
A regulated foot specialist in Ontario can be one of two names. The member may be a Chiropodist or Podiatrist. Essentially, a Chiropodist is Canadian trained and a Podiatrist is American trained. After the year of 1992 no member of the College of Chiropodists is allowed to call themselves, or register as a Podiatrist. Both chiropodists and podiatrists can assess foot & ankle problems, prescribe medications, perform injections, perform soft tissue surgery and prescribe orthotics/orthopaedic footwear.
DO I NEED A MEDICAL REFERRAL?
NO, chiropodists are primary care practitioners and therefore do not require a medical referral. If you or someone you know needs help with their foot concerns or pain – they are more than welcome to attend the Kawartha Foot & Orthotic Clinic.
Are Foot care services covered by OHIP?
Foot care services in Ontario are not covered under the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP). However, most extended health insurances, as well as NIHB, ODSP, WSIB, veteran's affairs help cover your visit costs. We recommend you check with your insurance provider to understand your coverage. Itemized receipts and supporting documentations will be provided to submit your claim.
